Bristol Elementary named Missouri Gold Star School

Bristol Elementary School, part of the Webster Groves School District, has been named one of Missouri's eight Gold Star Schools for 2024 by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). This prestigious recognition, which aligns with the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program, celebrates schools for their exceptional academic achievements or for performing at high levels while serving a significant proportion of disadvantaged students. The U.S. Department of Education's Blue Ribbon Schools will be announced later this fall.

The Missouri Gold Star Schools program, established in 1991, mirrors the criteria for nomination set by the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program. These schools demonstrate outstanding performance in English language arts (ELA) and mathematics assessments while meeting the needs of all students within their communities.

"We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the students, teachers, and staff members of Bristol Elementary School for earning this esteemed recognition," said Commissioner of Education Margie Vandeven. "Their dedication to academic excellence and inclusivity serves as a model for schools across the state."

In order to qualify for the Missouri Gold Star Schools program, nominees must meet stringent criteria set forth by DESE:

  • Top Performance: Schools must rank in the top 15 percent statewide in ELA and mathematics assessments.

  • Super Subgroup Achievement: Schools must rank in the top 40 percent in the performance of the historically lowest performing groups.

  • Eligibility Requirements: Schools must meet all ten eligibility criteria, including having a nondiscrimination policy and no history of testing irregularities.

Bristol Elementary School's commitment to excellence and equity has placed it among the top educational institutions in Missouri. The Gold Star recognition not only celebrates the school's achievements but also underscores its dedication to providing a high-quality education for all students.

“Being named a Missouri Gold Star School is a testament to the dedication and hard work of Bristol Elementary's students, teachers and staff. This recognition is also an indication of the exemplary support Bristol students and staff receive from our families,” Webster Groves School District Superintendent Dr. John Simpson said.

"As principal of Bristol Elementary School, I am incredibly proud of our students, teachers and staff for their relentless pursuit of excellence. Being named a Missouri Gold Star School reflects our collective commitment to work to provide a quality education that meets the needs of every learner, regardless of background or circumstance," Bristol Elementary Principal Bill Senti said.

Bristol Elementary School joins Clark Elementary (2005), Avery Elementary (2007), and Hixson Middle (2008) as the fourth school in the Webster Groves School District to be recognized by the state as a Gold Star school.
